Music in the Alhambra

The musicians used to be slaves (men and women). They were waiting for the master´s call to play or sing during the whole day and night.

The music was performed as the background of a meeting, while the people were walking in the garden, in the living room, in the bathroom...anywhere. Sometimes, the musicians were hidden behind a lattice to preserve the master´s privacy.

The aim of the music was to entertain the masters or surprise the master´s guests.

Although the following paintings were made in the 19th century, they can help you to imagin the different moments where the Andalusian classical music was performed in a palace like the Alhambra.
